Limitations of Traditional Barbell Lifts

While barbell exercises like bench presses, squats, and deadlifts can build strength, they are fatiguing on the central nervous system and carry a higher injury risk. Alex shares a personal AC joint injury as an example.

Safer Alternatives for Aesthetics

Alex prefers machine-based movements like the plate-loaded incline press. These allow balanced load distribution, safer failure training, and reduced risk of injury while effectively targeting muscles.

High Intensity vs. High Volume Training

Early in his training, Alex used lower-intensity, higher-volume pump routines. He found that high-intensity, low-volume training is more efficient, scientifically supported, and better for progressive overload.

Structure of High Intensity Training

In high-intensity training, fewer exercises and sets are performed per muscle group, taken to complete failure with proper form. For example, 2–3 exercises with 2 working sets each, instead of 4 exercises with 4 sets each.

Benefits of High Intensity Approach

This method maximizes muscle growth in less time, allows more frequent training, and enhances overall efficiency. It is particularly effective for individuals who cannot spend long hours in the gym.
